
A Conversation Between Steve McQueen and Cora Gilroy-Ware
The Public Program devoted to Steve MᶜQueen’s exhibition “Sunshine State” opens with a talk between Steve MᶜQueen and Cora Gilroy-Ware, art historian and author of the essay “In the Dead of the Light: Steve McQueen’s Sunshine State” for the exhibition’s catalogue.
The artist will discuss with Cora Gilroy-Ware some of the main themes of the exhibition, focusing particularly on the genesis and complex narrative of Sunshine State (2022), the new video installation commissioned and produced by the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2022, which is presented in world premiere at Pirelli HangarBicocca. At the end of the conversation, the artist will answer questions from the audience.
Cora Gilroy-Ware is a scholar and artist working on continuities between the historic and contemporary, ancient and modern. Her first book, The Classical Body in Romantic Britain (Paul Mellon Center for Studies in British Art, 2020), was a “Book of the Year for 2020” in the Times Literary Supplement. Cora Gilroy-Ware is Associate Professor in History of Art at the University of Oxford, as well as an artist who performs under the name Fauness.
