Au Bord
This work brings together the stage direction of Valentino Villa – one of the most acclaimed directors and actors on the Italian scene – with the words of French dramatist and writer Claudine Galea. Winner of the Grand prix de littérature dramatique, “Au bord” was sparked by the photo – sadly all too well-known – taken in Abu Ghraib prison that appeared in the Washington Post of May 21, 2004, in which a woman in uniform holds a prisoner on a leash. The monologue performed on stage by multi-award-winning actress Monica Piseddu reveals an interrogation, as uncomfortable as it is intimate, of the human and the unimaginable. The photograph, the tortured prisoner and the female soldier end up losing their strictly documentary and political meaning to become the generators of infinite questions and infinite images.
