Gian Maria Tosatti “NOw/here”
Pirelli HangarBicocca is hosting “NOw/here,” a personal exhibition by Gian Maria Tosatti, one of Italy’s most exciting artists in recent years. Tosatti’s innovative intervention in the Shed space presents a dimension of his practice never before seen by the audience. The exhibition is curated by Vicente Todolí and consists of two cycles of works that are presented for the first time in Pirelli HangarBicocca. Tosatti’s works are large-format elements that create a dialogue with the Zeitgeist and the feeling of the artist’s generation, offering the audience an opportunity to reflect on themselves.
The title of the exhibition itself is an invitation to immerse oneself in an environment that poses an open, simple, and intimate question to the visitors: “How do you feel?” Through this new body of work, Gian Maria Tosatti captures the most essential aspects of the human condition in a complex moment, where society is balancing between catastrophe and evolution. The exhibition seeks to transcend the boundaries of installation while remaining closely linked to the architecture of Pirelli HangarBicocca.
The works are conceived as “mirrors,” open questions that directly involve the visitors. The experience is free from predetermined conditions, offering visitors an opportunity to appreciate Tosatti’s works as transcendence. The exhibition is an opportunity to reflect on the present moment, evoked by the title “NOw/here,” which can be interpreted as “now,” “here,” or “nowhere.” This exhibition is a continuation of the artist’s poetic path, showing coherence and continuity, referencing his past works, such as Testamento – devozioni X (2011), Episodio di Odessa (2020), and Storia della notte e destino delle comete (2022). The exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to encounter history as a feeling and to capture the moment in which they are involved.
