“Il Buco” by Michelangelo Frammartino
On the occasion of “PERFORMING PAC. Take me to the place I love” Michelangelo Frammartino introduces the screening of his film Il Buco.
A fascinating and adventurous journey of a team of very young speleologists who, in the autumn of 1961, leave a north in the middle of an economic boom and embark on a campaign in the rural south, as far as the Calabrian hinterland of the Pollino, where they discover one of the deepest caves in the world – the Abisso del Bifurto – guarded only by an old shepherd, the true guardian and memory of a rugged and uncontaminated territory.
The hole, or rather the cave, speaks of the profound relationship with a sometimes hostile land and of an “invisible” conquest: that of the group of cavers, almost unknown, and that of the director, who in turn is confronted with the challenge of filming in a context devoid of light
The film won the Special Jury Prize at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.
