Sqürl is a New York duo consisting of the director and musician Jim Jarmusch, one of the greatest exponents of American independent cinema, and the composer and film producer Carter Logan. Together they perform the soundtrack for four surreal, dreamlike films by the Dada artist Man Ray.

The works of one of the most versatile and brilliant artists of the twentieth century, and a legendary photographer, painter and producer, are brought to life by the genius of Sqürl in semi-improvised scores using synthesisers, guitars and loops. The four films by Man Ray selected by Sqürl are L’Étoile de Mer (1928), Emak Bakia (1926), Retour à la Raison (1923) and Les Mystères du Château du Dé (1929).

An American director, actor, screenwriter and musician, Jim Jarmusch is one of the most important independent filmmakers. After making his debut with Permanent Vacation (1980), he achieved success with his Stranger than Paradise (1984), which won the Caméra d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival. He has had a prolific career, winning a host of awards. His most important works include Dead Man (1995), Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999), and Coffee and Cigarettes (2003), which earned him the Short Film Palme d’Or at Cannes, Broken Flowers (2005), which won the Grand Prix at Cannes, Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) and Paterson (2016). Two years after The Dead Don’t Die, the work that opened the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival, he made his return to directing with French Water in April 2021. Made for Saint Laurent, the short film starred Julianne Moore, Chloë Sevigny and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
