Vanni Cuoghi “SUBMARINER”
An exquisite Art Nouveau building located at the entrance to Parco Sempione, between the Castello Sforzesco and the Arena, and the only building left from the Expo of 1906, houses the City Aquarium.
Until September 12, this unsual venue hosts the exhibition project SUBMARINER by artist Vanni Cuoghi. The show, curated by Nicoletta Castellaneta and Ivan Quaroni, showcases 16 recent works, many of them exhibited for the very first time.
The subjects draw inspiration from the seabed and the creatures that inhabit it, in a constant magical dialogue with the venue. Following his most distinctive style, made up of surreal, ironic, dreamlike quotations, enriched by mysterious elements, Cuoghi uses the elements of the underwater world as a pretext to represent a darker landscape, or the dark side of the landscape.
The exhibition also features a site-specific work by the artist, an enormous three-dimensional diorama which recreates the office of Captain Nemo, the mythological commander of the submarine Nautilus, who made his first appearance in the novel by Jules Verne Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.
