Lampadina LED Table Lamp

Designed by Achille Castiglioni in 1972 and an object in MoMA’s collection, the Lampadina Table Lamp combines a bulb that has a science-lab feel with a stand that evokes a film reel. In Italian, “lampadina” literally means “light bulb” and for this design, Castiglioni played with the concept of light through a decidedly meta recreation of a light bulb. The Lampadina’s clear bulb provides direct lighting, although a portion of it has been sandblasted to create a frosted circle that casts a more diffused light.
