Sophie Taeuber-Arp Dada Marionette

Sophie Taeuber-Arp was a key woman artist in the Zürich Dada movement and a multifaceted innovator with a wide-ranging body of work. In 1918, she designed an ensemble of radically abstracted marionettes. These Sophie Taeuber-Arp Dada Marionettes are poseable painted wooden figures, handcrafted in Germany, that are stringless versions based on her original, otherworldly designs. Composed of cylinders, cones and spheres, they were in direct contrast to the human-like marionettes that were prevalent at the time.
