The Filarmonica della Scala and conductor Riccardo Chailly return to perform in Piazza Duomo for the “Concerto per Milano” on Sunday. This year, the event will also celebrate the tenth anniversary of the concert returning at the beginning of summer. This is a double anniversary for the Filarmonica, which in 2022 celebrates forty years of activity and thus reunites with the general public without limitations, after the two restricted editions held in September due to the pandemic.
“The 10th anniversary of the Concert for Milan is a significant milestone that once again demonstrates the orchestra’s bond with the city. It is an eagerly awaited appointment, even more so in this year in which public participation finally returns without restrictions” said Maurizio Beretta, President of the Filarmonica della Scala. “In ten editions the Concert in Piazza Duomo has brought more and more people closer to music, a concrete commitment that the Filarmonica della Scala ensures with an artistic proposal of the highest standard.”
Piazza Duomo once again becomes the stage under the stars for a great celebration of music dedicated to the city of Milan and not only: since 2013 the Concert for Milan has been one of the most popular free symphonic music event in Italy. In previous editions it has been attended by more than 40,000 live spectators and thousands around the world thanks to live TV broadcasts.

To celebrate this anniversary, Riccardo Chailly and the musicians of La Scala have devised a programme of great vitality and energy, starting with a foray into the atmospheres of Spanish music, with the Interlude and Dance from Manuel de Falla’s opera La vida breve and the Rapsodie espagnole op. 54 by Maurice Ravel. The programme features a tribute to George Gershwin, with the famous and evocative notes of his symphonic poem An American in Paris and the Catfish Row suite from Porgy and Bess. Opening the concert will be the world premiere of Decisamente allegro, the new piece commissioned to composer Nicola Campogrande for the orchestra’s 40th birthday.
