Artist Gian Maria Tosatti will represent Italy at the next Venice Biennale, the most prestigious art-world event that has been delayed another year due to the global pandemic.
The 59th edition of the show, which will be orchestrated by Italian curator Cecilia Alemani, will run in Venice from April 23 through November 27. The title of the show is “The Milk of Dreams,” a name borrowed from Surrealist artist Leonora Carrington’s absurdist book.
“The research of Gian Maria Tosatti constitutes a unicum in the Italian artistic panorama.” Eugenio Viola, the curator of the Italian Pavilion, said in a statement to the press – “His works can be considered as complex aesthetic devices that involve different media and daring steps of perception of scale. His training in the performative field between Warsaw and Pontedera has merged into his artistic research, incorporating suggestions pertaining to the tradition of the environment and literature. I am happy to return to work with this visionary artist, of whom I have already curated a complex three-year project in Naples.”
Mr. Tosatti contributed to Milano Art Guide’s The Colouring Book in 2020, you can download his drawing here.
